Types of Fuel Injection Systems & the Need for Injector / Pump Tester

Over the past few years, there has been a rising demand for efficient fuel injection systems which provide cleaner engine emissions, improved power, quieter operation, and of course, most importantly, efficient injector tester machine is good for economic fuel consumption.

However, it is of utmost importance to keep your fuel injector and pumps well-maintained and clean.

Today we will discuss the importance of maintaining fuel injectors and pumps as well as their function and importance.

We will also cover the types of fuel injection systems and the pros and cons of each and every one of them, as well as buying injector / pump tester machinery to continuously monitor and maintain these systems to make sure they run smoothly in order to optimize engine performance via the effective distribution of fuel into the cylinders of the engine.

Why is injector / pump tester Maintenance important?

The function of fuel injectors and pump testers is quite complex. They deliver fuel to the engine of vehicles or other machinery so that a spark plug can start it.

This is why fuel injectors deal with high levels of heat and pressure.

Sometimes, the burning fuel leaves residues on the piston and injection nozzle heads that might accumulate with time and cause damage.

Such damages often cause spray patterns to be ineffective and thus reduce the proper flow of fuel to the engine.

Minimize Errors Via Maktest Injector Tester

Monitoring fuel injectors requires extensive knowledge and expertise. You need to conduct research on how fuel injector systems operate and how to diagnose any issues that may arise.

For that purpose, Maktest injector tester products are sure to provide you with a good return on investment as they are heavy-duty and durable as well as budget-friendly.

The 4 Types of Fuel Injection Systems

There are four different types of injection systems used to adjust the engine’s RPM (Revolutions Per Minute).

The role of these systems is to adjust the amount of air and fuel inserted into the cylinder and each system accomplishes it differently.

Single-point/throttle body injection

This was the earliest injection system, and it was a building block for more complex systems to come. It replaces the carburetor with one or two fuel-injector nozzles in the throttle body. Even though it is not as precise as other injection systems, it is however the simplest and the most cost-effective.

The most important component in this injection system is the common rail.

Maktest provides TK1029 and TK1026 for testing common rail injector systems.

TK1029 Maktest injector / pump tester is used more for heavy-duty injectors (Those running 24/7, such as L’Orange MTU 1163, MTU4000, Cummins QSK)

This universal mechanical pump test bench is designed to endure continuous testing and has better filtration, larger and different design test oil tank, a cooling algorithm, a motor drive, and master pump selection.

In case you are not operating heavy-duty fuel injector systems, you can opt for the TK1026 Injectester CRI which is one of the most advanced injector / pump testers with features like temperature control, test and repair instructions, control software and drivers, troubleshooting guides, and much more.

One of the biggest advantages of a common rail direct fuel injection system is that it greatly contributes to the reduction of exhaust and noise emissions and proves better fuel efficiency, and enhances the overall performance of the engine.

Port/ multipoint fuel injection

This fuel injection system is more advanced than the single-point as it uses a separate injector nozzle according to the number of cylinders (located just outside its intake port, which is why it is also called port injection).

The advantage of this system is that fuel is more effectively sprayed into the engine, which reduces performance problems.

However, it does have one disadvantage, which is, just like the first system, this system works at one time. In other words, fuel will be sprayed into the cylinders even if one of them is in the combustion phase, which is wasteful.

Electronic Fuel Injection mainly utilizes both single-point and multipoint injection systems.

EFI regulates and optimizes fuel-to-air ratios that enter the machine in a way where carburetors become obsolete.

Opposite to the mechanical fuel injection system, the electronic fuel system consists of electronic components and sensors.

They must be well-calibrated and maintained, and continuously tested.

For that purpose, Maktest’s injector / pump tester machinery is useful.

TK1024 is a Hydraulic Electronic Injector Tester that provides higher oil pressure and automatic testing that eliminates the need to have an attendant to monitor it.

You can also check the manual electronic injector / pump tester TK1022 for a simpler operation.

Sequential fuel injection/ Timed Injection

Unlike the previous fuel injection systems, Sequential fuel injection does not spray fuel at once, instead, the system triggers each injector nozzle independently. In other words, it sprays fuel right before or during the intake valve openings, making it by far the most effective and efficient fuel injection system among the three.

Direct injection

This advanced fuel injection system is different than all the other three as it injects the fuel directly into the combustion chambers without passing through the valves first.

It was commonly used in diesel engines, but nowadays, you can find it used in gasoline engines as well

Maktest injector / pump tester FAQ

How do you diagnose a bad fuel injector?

When an engine does not start or stalls or vibrates, it can be an indicator that the fuel injector has gone bad and thus needs maintenance.

What is a Fuel Injector Test bench?

A Fuel Injector Test Bench is an environment used to test the correctness of a fuel injector. This is normally done by an injector / pump tester.

How do you test HEUI injectors?

A Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector (HEUI) is a system computer-controlled that consists of a combined pump and injector for each cylinder inside the engine. In order to test HEUI injectors, you will need special equipment like TK1024  which can be purchased from Maktest.
